Mitutoyo 209-600 Dial Caliper Gauge, Internal Measurement, Metric, White Face, 30-50mm Range, +/-0.03mm Accuracy, 0.01mm Graduation, 0.04" Dia. Ball Contact Point Overview

The Mitutoyo 209-600 internal dial caliper gage uses a dial to perform internal (ID) measurements between 30 and 50 mm. It measures hole diameters, internal grooves, and other hard-to-reach inside dimensions. For highest levels of accuracy, this caliper can be used with a ring gauge, setting ring, or micrometer.

An internal dial caliper gage is one of the simplest forms of calipers. It is used for taking hard-to-reach inside measurements. This caliper gage measures indentations, grooves, and hole diameters. The gage has two spring-loaded arms that make point contact with constant measuring pressure. It is a simplified version of a dual scale dial caliper. The dial is circular and has a pointer; it is mounted on a toothed gear track which drives the pointer. The minimum measurement of the dial creates the accuracy of that result. The dial is marked in inches or millimeters and can be rotated beneath the pointer to measure size differential between two objects. The dial caliper is easier to read than the vernier caliper, thus safeguarding against reading errors. Its precise measurements complement the use of the vernier caliper; the dial provides readability and interpolating measurements which most vernier calipers, due to their need for direct observation of both scales, may not provide. The dial caliper gage can be used along with a setting ring or micrometer; the moveable bezel is adjusted before use by bringing the zero point to an identified size. This caliper gage utilizes a simple metric measuring dial for readability in ID measurements.

The 209-600 dial caliper gage measures in millimeters, is graduated in 0.01 mm increments, and weighs 200 g. It has 0.04" (1 mm) diameter carbide ball measuring tips for inner diameter (ID) measurements, a maximum probing depth (throat depth) of 80 mm, a maximum groove depth of 6.5 mm, and a minimum groove width of 2.5 mm. Range is 30 - 50 mm, resolution is 0.01 mm, and accuracy is rated at + or - 0.03 mm, which meets Federal Accuracy Specifications GGG-C-111B.

Calipers measure the distance between two opposing sides of an object. They make inside, outside, depth, or step measurements, according to their type. Calipers are commonly used in architecture, metalworking, mechanical engineering, machining, manufacturing, carpentry, and medicine. The simplest calipers have two legs to mark the two points and require a ruler to take the measurement. More complex calipers use two sets of jaws instead of legs and have up to two graduated scales. Vernier, dial, and digital calipers all give direct and accurate readings and are functionally identical, having a calibrated scale with a fixed jaw, and another jaw with a movable pointer that slides along the scale. The vernier caliper has a scale sliding parallel to the main scale for an additional, fractional reading to improve measurement precision. The dial caliper has a circular dial with a pointer on a toothed gear rack replacing the second vernier scale. As with the vernier, this second measurement is added to the reading from the main scale to obtain the result. The dial caliper is used for measuring size differential between two objects, as well. The digital caliper takes the same sort of differential measurements as the dial caliper by zeroing the display at any point along the slide, with an LCD (replacing the dial) that displays a single, easily read value in both English and metric units. Some digital calipers can hold data readings between measurements and send them to data collection devices.
